The temple of Surkanda Devi is located on the Surkut mountain of Jaunpar, in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. This place is about three thousand meters above sea level. Apart from its great religious significance, this temple is also known for its picturesque location. The temple of Surkanda Mata is surrounded by dense forest. According to the mythological legend, this is the place where the head of Mata Sati fell, thus it is one of the fifty-one shaktipeeths. Initially, it was called Sirkanda, which later became famous as Surkanda. It’s also believed that the wishes of Gods were fulfilled in this temple. Legend has it that the demons captured the heavens after defeating the gods. In such a situation, the deities went to the temple of Mata Surkanda Devi and prayed that they would get their kingdom. Their wish was fulfilled and the gods defeated the demons in battle and established their dominion over the heavens.

The temple is situated among the Ronsali trees which looks very beautiful amidst the fog and is surrounded by tourists and devotees throughout the year.
