Swami Dayanand Ashram

Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a worldwide recognised Vedanta teacher and best scholar of Sanskrit, created Swami Dayananda Ashram near Rishikesh. Located on the banks of the Holy Ganga in a private setting, It is a one-of-a-kind centre for the study of Vedanta and Sanskrit in English while remaining true to the historic teaching tradition.

It’s also called Arsha Vidya Pitham, which translates to “a learning center based on the teachings of ancient rishis”. Here, certain Vedanta books and supplementary literature are taught, as well as Paninian-style Sanskrit grammar and Vedic chantings throughout the classes. Regular retreats on Vedanta, Yoga, and other disciplines are held throughout the year by Arsha Vidya Teachers who gather their students for specific periods of time and offer lessons.

Apart from being a center for Vedanta literature, this ashram is a perfect place for your weekend getaway. Inside the premises, you can find a temple which is dedicated to Lord Siva as Sri Gangadharesvara. Pujas and prayers are offered at the shrine every morning and evening in keeping with the traditional Vedic style.

You can also visit the samadhi shrine of Pujya Sri Swami which is located adjacent to the Lecture hall. Regular pujas are conducted here also in the morning and evening.

The ashram also is a great place for all bibliomaniacs out there as it has its own library.

Please note that the ashram does not function as a hotel. Visitors are welcome to participate in daily Vedanta, Sanskrit, Vedic Chanting, or Yoga programmes. You need to fill out the form given in their website and they will let you know about the space availability.
